There are many different theories about the types of hauntings that are out there for you to experience. Because Paranormal Investigating is not an exact science and is open to each persons opinion, it is difficult to categorically say that the types of hauntings mentioned on this list are the only types of hauntings that exist. There are however repeating patterns that paranormal investigators have recognized in general that I will briefly mention here.

First- Residual:  This type of haunting or paranormal experience is like watching a video or listening to a recording of something. These types of events (audio, visual, etc) do not  interact with the person experiencing the phenomenon. This type of haunting can occur regardless of if someone is there to witness it or not.

Second- Intelligent:  A haunting or paranormal experience that does appear to make an effort to interact with or communicate with a living person.

Third- Poltergeist: German for "noisy ghost".  This type of haunting can manifest its presence by making noises, moving objects, and even harming people and animals.

Once again, this is not comprehensive list of all possible types of hauntings, it's just an introductory list of a few possible types of hauntings.

Enviornmental factors-: What does a persons environment have to do with a Paranormal Experience? Maybe what you experienced wasn't actually a haunting at all, but was the result of some environmental factor.
While this isn't necessarily a "type" of haunting, it does deserve to be addressed when talking about hauntings, as often times a persons environment can explain why one might think they are experiencing something paranormal.
There are several of different environmental conditions that are said to cause people to feel that they are experiencing something that they cannot explain. Here are just a couple of brief examples:
- Chemicals (storage areas or basements where miscellaneous household chemicals are stored). These things can affect a person neurologically - possibly affecting ones perception.
-Electrical wiring, household appliances, overhead or underground wires to name a few - these all create Electro Magnectic Fields which can potentially cause a number of different symptoms that could be misinterpreted as a paranormal experience. Symptoms include sleepiness, headache, dizziness, or nausea to name a few.
Again, these are just a couple of environmental items that could cause a person to believe that they have experienced something paranormal when in fact it was some aspect of the persons environment that created the "experience".
